Global Action Nepal was founded in 1996 with the primary aim of improving the education of children in Nepal. Since then, GAN has diversified its activities to work within a number of different areas, including environmental, health and sanitation issues, whilst keeping a focus on education at the very heart of our activities.
GAN believes that the people of Nepal have the right to a basic level of healthcare, sanitation and education, and that they deserve to be in control of their own destiny. GAN

Global Action Nepal (GAN) is a UK Registered Charity whose chief focus is on educational and social improvement throughout Nepal. Our educational programme provides infrastructural development in schools and communities through building classrooms, toilets and water points. Our training programme also develops the inherent skills and abilities of all those involved in the educational process students, teachers, headmasters, management committees and parents alike.
We run sponsorship and scholarship programmes for children who otherwise would not be able to pursue an education as well as childrens clubs in which children can explore their talents through such diverse means as drama, debate and sport. We also work closely with Nepali youth, offering training and basic skills development whilst they work with our field staff on our projects. In order to achieve our goals, we work closely with a number of internationally-renowned project partners in Nepal.

Nepal, one of the most beautiful countries in the world, is also one of the poorest. The 'shangri-la' of people's imaginations is certainly there to see, but if you look closer, there is a huge need for social and educational improvement.
Volunteering for six months with GAN will give you the opportunity to live and work in these communities. GAN runs programmes for people of all ages and all nationalities between November to April. Volunteers are engaged in a wide range of fields, most specifically working with childrens clubs in activities as diverse as drama, dance and debating, and in developing the English skills of Nepalese teachers. GAN works in areas where volunteers can be of most long-term benefit to Nepal where sustainability is fundamental to our philosophy.
Volunteer stay in pairs with Nepali families, and for the first time in 2004, our Overseas Volunteer Programme will run alongside a similar programme for young Nepali university graduates.
The basic costs of the programme is £1,650 (excluding flights), which includes a full three week training programme once in Nepal, as well as visa costs, insurance, all food and accommodation and transportation.
