Flying Kites is a non-profit organization that seeks to raise the standards of care available to the world's poorest children. We believe that in order to BREAK the cycle of poverty, poor children must receive the highest quality of childcare, have access to excellent medical services and receive a world-class education. We do not believe that children who are provided with merely adequate care - enough food to survive, limited education, rows of bunk-beds and bowls of rice - will be a in position to take on the challenges facing their country, to compete on a world stage.

What does the organization do?
Currently, Flying Kites runs an orphanage, Flying Kites Kinangop Children's Center, in Kinangop, Kenya. Located in the Abercares Mountains, north of Nairobi, our site provides fresh air, clean water, and ample space so our children can enjoy a childhood filled with outdoor play time as well as...

Currently, Flying Kites runs an orphanage, Flying Kites Kinangop Children's Center, in Kinangop, Kenya. Located in the Abercares Mountains, north of Nairobi, our site provides fresh air, clean water, and ample space so our children can enjoy a childhood filled with outdoor play time as well as abundant attention and compassion from our matrons, who are all native Kenyans. At this time, we have 16 children living at our site and another 35 children from the area who attend the school we have on site. Our ultimate goal, once we have completed building at our Kinangop site, is to house 84 orphans.

The founders of Flying Kites were students themselves when they first developed the Flying Kites model and established the organization, so our connection to youth is quite strong. At this time, Flying Kites has two separate intiatives, MyTurn and Kinder Kites, which provide opportunities for young people (MyTurn for college students, and KinderKites for younger students) to become involved in the organization as fundraisers and as awareness-raisers.
