Mission:
1. To give needy church groups, that have no alternative resources, special access to loans for building and renovating churches and other church infrastructure.
2. To facilitate socio-economic self-reliance for marginalized groups by making available fair credit for socio-economic activities.
3. To facilitate sharing of resources both between “North and South” and by extension “South to South“ in such a way that it does not increase the South’s external indebtedness but instead increases their capacity to help themselves.

The Ecumenical Church Loan Fund (ECLOF) was incorporated in 1946 in Geneva, Switzerland to grant loans outside Switzerland. The original mission after the second world war was to rebuild destroyed and damaged churches in Europe. In 1959, this mission was expanded when the first National ECLOF Committee was formed outside Europe, in Burma. This was followed by Tanzania in 1960 and Argentina in 1961. Loans to these new committees were predominantly for building projects, including the construction of schools, clinics and community centres as well as church buildings. In 1971, in response to the 1968 World Council of Churches Uppsalla Assembly's call for greater social and economic justice ECLOF began to promote the use of loans for micro enterprise projects.
