EcoSpark works with communities and with schools, providing them with the knowledge and tools to monitor their environment and take action for positive environmental change. We believe that through encouraging and empowering those with whom we work to take action themselves, we can create and sustain a healthy environment.
EcoSpark has an education team and a community team.
The education team works with youth mainly through the formal school system. We coach students in their own water quality monitoring and stewardship, electricity conservation, and environmental film-making projects.
The community team focuses on the Oak Ridges Moraine. They raise awareness about the vital role that the Moraine plays in Ontario's drinking water supply. They also empower community members to monitor its environmental integrity as well as development in the region.

There are three ways that youth and their schools can get get involved with EcoSpark.
First, youth can take part in our Ontario stream monitoring program: Changing Currents. In this program students monitor the health of their local stream, river, or creek using the bugs that live there as indicators. EcoSpark will then help students analyse their results and take action.
Second, youth can get involved in running an electricity conservation campaign in their school through the Wattwize program. EcoSpark will give them resources, and support them to do this. We'll even provide a Conservation Coach if needed!
Finally, youth can get involved in our environmental documentary program. This program does not run every year, but when it does it trains youth to create high quality environmental documentaries.
