SOCIETY FOR PROTECTION OF ATHEISTIC FEELINGS, SLOVENIA We are a society of 60 people dealing with promotion of critical thinking mainly in the field of culture. The society's hard-core consists of four intellectuals and socio-cultural activists who have been running these projects since 1994: 1. "Permanent development of province" - installing high quality independent culture (alternative music and film) into most impossible places outside the full-of-it-all capital, with a stress on our neighbours' culture (Croatia, Hungary, Italy) and connecting it to present modern West-european cultural currents. 2. An antipode to this metropolitain idealism is our efforts to humanize Ljubljana's cultural space through opening the middle stages for microscopic artists by the aid of voluntary work, search for alternatives to alternative venues and implementing tribal economy principles.. 3. One of our prerrogatives is three-headed: support, connecting and promotion of brave, young, independent artists and activists a) E.g. in cooperation with related organizations we have founded a record label "Domaèi posnjtki", a cyclus of tape releases "Trakulja" b) Practically it also anually means ten tours of european avantgarde rock'n'roll in cultural places of small towns in Slovenia and Croatia. c) Organizational assistance, consulting, fund-raising assistance and providing with culture d) Social implications of all this culture principles and praxis are immediately reflected in one's relationships towards marginal social groups (women, the handicapped, exiles and refugees). We've been maintaining unpleasant relationships with the state concerning question of the refugees from BiH and Kosova. We've also been creatively supporting a group of the handicapped in their efforts to theoretically and practically disclose the handicap as a social, and not a medical question. e) a,b,c,d is being documented, edited, compiled and commented in our video magazine "Filmski vestnik", four times a year. We also run a radio programme at Ljubljana's Radio Student and release a sociologically philosophical magazine Bula. 4) Menza pri koritu is a club we have founded in Metelkova mesto Autonomous Cultural Centre in 2000 with the cooperation of KUD Mreža society. It is a work in progress as far the increase of cultural activities in the public place is concerned. It has a status of a Youth centre appointed by the Office of youth at the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport. All the above mentioned activities of the DZAÈ society are in this way realized through a self-made physical space.
