The Centre for Gender and Social Policy Studies, Obafemi Awolowo University was established in 1997 with a central focus on issues relating to gender studies; women's issues, especially
sexual and reproductive health among others. The mandates of the Centre include: i. teaching; research; training; and outreach programmes. For example, the Centre has outreach programmes targeting at the students population (the university currently has over 25,000 students population many of who are within the adolescent age bracket. One of such outreach programmes is the Forum for Gender Education and ACTION (FORGE-Action), which organises talks, enlightenment programmes, and Peer Educator training to improve the knowledge base of this teeming population on HIV/AIDS' prevention and care; and more importantly, socio-economic implications of HIV/AIDS epidemic. The Centre also organises enlightenment talks in Primary and Secondary schools within the home state - Osun State, Nigeria.

1. Research sexual and reproductive health with a central focus on HIV/AIDS (the Centre has a standing Research Group on Gender, Human Sexuality and HIV/AIDS;
2. organised a public forum during the last World AIDS day - the forum was attended by staff and students of the university, and pupils and students from local primary and secondary schools respectively;
3. Peer Educators among students on issues relating to HIV/AIDS within the campus;
4. Seminar series with focus on issues on HIV/AIDS;
5. Collaborated with local NGOs on an intervention study on "Repositioning Youths as Partners in the Fight Against HIV/AIDS Spread" (study was carried out in 6 Nigerian States - each of these states now has Youths AIDS Club - with a onerous task of members serving as peer educators). The study was sponsored by NACA (Nigeria);
