The CEN services its member groups and other clients by:

* Selecting ENGO delegates for participation in various meetings and consultations in Canada and internationally.
* Maintaining a national database of ENGOs, as well as of individuals and consultants working on environmental issues;
* Facilitating information sharing among ENGOs, across the country;
* Forging links between ENGOs in Canada and others around the world working on sustainable development;
* Coordinating an Annual General Assembly (AGA) of people from across the country who work on environmental issues;
* Publishing bulletins, discussion briefs on specific issues, and directories of ENGOs and others that work to conserve the environment and promote more sustainable development.
