BPF has three ideas at its heart –
*The recognition for a need for a common platform that reduces fragmentation, sectarianism and provincialism;
*The importance of good citizenship with common concerns about community development; and
*The need for British-Pakistanis to be seen as a positive resource and an asset.
The British Pakistanis Foundation (BPF) brings together like minded people of diverse backgrounds to counter negative images of British Pakistanis and to look at ways and means of putting forward positive aspects of the community. We are all concerned about the decline in educational results, growth in crime, social divisions on a religious, cultural, political, biradari and language basis, and now even on a family level. However the absence of a national and independent platform, where people with knowledge, skills, professionalism, vision, understanding and commitment can think and develop ideas, policies and strategies has created a big gap. One reason has been the lack of effective leadership that can examine issues of importance, based on robust and qualitative research. We also need to examine our respective roles and responsibilities as British Pakistanis in countering the negative images portrayed in the media and the stigma around being a Pakistani with the community at large. If British Pakistanis want to have an influence and impact they must be part of and integrate more into UK society. The achievements of a number of British Pakistani ‘Britstars’ from politics, sport, the arts, business and community all provide evidence of progress being made as well as indicating the potential for more success.
BPF is a registered not for profits company (limited by guarantee) and is being registered as a charity. The following areas have been identified as priorities –
(a) Research and policy development;
(b) Trade and investment: trade development and investment links with Pakistan and economic development, skills training, job creation and business start up training and support in the UK;
(c) Media and public relations;
(d) Youth and community development;
(e) Arts and culture; and
(f) Other areas (eg. women’s participation, sports, prisoners’ rehabilitation
and disabled and carer provision).

The BPF will not duplicate other credible and commendable initiatives– indeed there are several in which BPF Steering Group members have played key roles in recent years. BPF will also therefore signpost people to such areas and organisations with whom it will seek to develop stronger and supportive relationships and building a more cohesive British Pakistani identity, e.g. Commonwealth Business Council; Pakistani Bankers Association; Pakistan Private Equity and Venture Capital Association of Europe; QED-UK; POP-UK: (Pakistani Origin Professionals in UK), FATIMA Women’s Network, HRH The Prince of Wales Mosaic Programme, Pakistan Societies in Universities and Colleges.
The BPF invites others who share its vision and approach to work with it and support its efforts to build a reputation for British Pakistanis that future generations can be proud of.
