This program was and projects were initiated with the following objectives: (1) to educate the youths and encourage learning of HIV / AIDS on a creative perspective; through play / drama / theatre and creation of advertisement or commercials; (2) to deal with disbeliefs and sensitive questions about HIV / AIDS & People Living with HIV / AIDS (PLWHA), and; (3) to correct negative perception towards HIV / AIDS & PLWHA.

Breaking the Silence: An Experiential Learning on HIV / AIDS is a long-term learning based programme which was conceptualised and created in year 2007 in Taylor’s College, School of Hospitality & Tourism (TCHT), Petaling Jaya. It was initialized through Changing Times: A Guide to Integrating HIV / AIDS Education into Compulsory Subjects consist of Moral Studies, Islamic Studies and Malaysian Studies which was jointly developed by Malaysian AIDS Council (MAC) and Malaysian Association of Private College and Universities (MAPCU) in 2006.
Through this programme, three main projects and activities were conceptualised and produced, which were; (1) theatre & drama, (2) creation of advertisement / commercial on HIV AIDS and (3) production of short films on HIV AIDS.

This program was and projects were conceptualised and produced due to the fact that the entrant needed a fresh yet creative and original approach of educating youths on HIV / AIDS rather than norms and traditional learning methods such as lectures and talks confined in classrooms and lecture theatres. Therefore, an experiential learning model and approach was originally created and adopted into teaching and learning process. Students were required to explore, engaging and experience being HIV-positive, family members of a loved one infected with HIV AIDS etc.
