Ashoka envisions a world where Everyone is a Changemaker: a world that responds quickly and effectively to social challenges, and where each individual has the freedom, confidence and societal support to address any social problem and drive change. We want to bring about a change in the existing mentality, to instill the notion that everyone can be a social entrepreneur, creating effective and systemic social change within his or her field and region. The only things that are needed are commitment, passion, creativity and originality.

Intern and volunteer
Ashoka Arab World Internship Program

Interns at Ashoka work with professionals and entrepreneurs committed to supporting an influential citizen sector worldwide. Because we recognize that interns can be Ashoka's best ambassadors in their schools and communities, we strive to immerse interns in our most dynamic projects as well as our unique staff culture. Our goal is to give interns the opportunity to shape their own substantive responsibilities. As trusted members of the Ashoka team, interns are expected to demonstrate Ashoka's core values of applied empathy, entrepreneurship and collegiality, and commitment to innovation for the public.

Available Positions


At Ashoka Arab World there is no set "type" of internship that we offer. We are seeking quality, competent, professional intern candidates with whom we work to tailor an internship that fits our needs while considering their interests and level of experience. In this way, Ashoka benefits from the interns' capabilities and the interns are able to pursue that which is most interesting to them. It is not uncommon for an intern to assist in several program areas.

We accept interns from many different education levels including high school students, undergraduates, graduate students, and post-graduate students. We also strive to attract students from as many nationalities as possible.

Intern Activities and Responsibilities

We strive to give our interns meaningful tasks that are crucial to the further development of Ashoka Arab World and also help to develop our interns' skills and experience. The lack of strict hierarchy and the emphasis on innovation at Ashoka mean that quality ideas generated from any level of the organization have the potential to be implemented on a regional or even international level.

Our interns are typically placed within one of the following areas, although most interns will assist in more than one area:

Development: The creation of new partnerships and cementing of existing partnerships with private, public and citizen sectors to strengthen Ashoka's network of allies and create an "Everyone a Changemaker" society.
Venture: The process by which Ashoka finds new candidates. This includes the nomination, preliminary application process, writing of candidate profiles, and finally the selection panel when our candidates are recommended to become Ashoka Fellows.
Outreach: Working with projects designed to encourage more citizen involvement in Ashoka, particularly via relationships with the media and universities. Assisting our Fellows in reaching as many citizens as possible.
Fellowship: Ensuring that our Fellows are connected with the resources that Ashoka can offer them. This includes assessing the Fellows needs, encouraging and supporting collaboration amongst our Fellows, writing reports on current Fellow projects, and general monitoring of Fellows' progress.
Graduate Students or Postgraduate Interns

There are many specific roles that graduate students or post-graduates could fulfill for Ashoka Arab World depending on their degree focus. We are seeking graduate interns who can provide consulting services (financial and otherwise), legal research/assistance, needs assessments, program assessments, fact-finding trips, non-profit managerial expertise, marketing development and many other services. Interns do not have to be affiliated with a university or institution to work at Ashoka.

Internship Stipend

Unfortunately, Ashoka is unable to provide remuneration to interns at this time.

Applying

Ashoka Arab World is continuously accepting applications for internship positions year-round. Internships typically last from 3 months to 6 months, although this is flexible. Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, resume, and writing sample of no more than three pages.

The cover letter should indicate:

What interests you about Ashoka as an organization
The program area(s) of Ashoka in which you are particularly interested
How your field of study/experiences/interests will help you in that area. Graduate and post-graduate students should discuss specific services/skills/expertise that they can offer to Ashoka Arab World and to our Ashoka Fellows in the Middle East.
