As one of Canada's leading university art galleries, the AGYU is committed to enriching the cultural and intellectual environment of York University, the surrounding communities and now, the internet community. In the interest of representing diverse critical perspectives, the AGYU invites guest curators and writes to contribute to its exhibition programming. Seeking to foster an understanding of contemporary art and its relevance to a broader cultural context, the AGYU coordinates a dynamic education and animation programme of publications, lectures, seminars and conferences which stimulate reflection, inquiry and debate surrounding current practices in our cultural environment. Equally; the AGYU serves as an important resource for students to gain hands-on experience with art and museum practice. By facilitating exchange between visiting artists, curators and students from a wide range of disciplines, the gallery seeks to complement York's academic programmes and play a vital role in the development of Canada's future museum professionals.
