In 1994, the United Nations convened an historic conference in Cairo that changed the way governments, international agencies and other professionals thought and talked about population. At the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD), leaders from around the world agreed that the future of the world's low-income countries depended less on controlling numbers of people and more on improving the quality of people's lives. The focus of that improvement, they agreed, must be global improvement in the status of women.

What does the organization do?
We build moral, political and financial support within the United States for UNFPA. UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, provides women’s health and promotes the rights of women in 150 countries. It is the largest international source of such assistance.

We build moral, political and financial support within the United States for UNFPA. UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, provides women’s health and promotes the rights of women in 150 countries. It is the largest international source of such assistance.
We are the official committee for UNFPA in the United States. We are a U.S. based 501C-3 organization funded by private foundations, corporations and individual donors. We were founded in 1998. We educate, advocate and raise funds for UNFPA.
UNFPA, like all UN agencies, is funded by the voluntary contributions of governments and private foundations. UNFPA was founded in 1969.

Chosen for her interest in a career that promotes women around the world, the winner of our Student Award travels to visit one of our honorees, lobbies her members of Congress and educates her classmates on the challenges...

Each year an American college student becomes a young ambassador for UNFPA. Chosen for her interest in a career that promotes women around the world, the winner of our Student Award travels to visit one of our honorees, lobbies her members of Congress and educates her classmates on the challenges and solutions to global women’s health.
The winner will receive at $1,000 scholarship and go on an expenses-paid trip to a low-income nation next summer to see first hand the field programs of UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund. UNFPA provides women’s health care and promotes the rights of women in over 150 countries around the world.
