We run a school lunch program for underprivileged children in various parts of India. The Akshaya Patra program is the largest NGO-run school lunch program in the world, currently feeding almost 800,000 children on a daily basis. This is done by setting up state of the art centralized kitchens in key areas, where large quantities of nutritious food are prepared in a very short period of time. As a result, we are able to feed one child for an entire year, for only $28.

Akshaya Patra recently launched the Students Initiative to help raise funds and awareness about our program. We are seeking middle school, high school, and college students to mobilize their classmates and build a movement to fight hunger and promote education among their less fortunate peers in India. Opportunities for youth include: setting up a local Students Initiative chapter in their school or community, planning events and activities to help raise money to support our program, administrative support, and coming up with other creative ideas to engage students.
