ARCON was estalished with the aim of 'Enhancing access to ART' under the GFATM mandate. We are an autinomous organisation of the state of Maharashtra since the past 13 years. our main aim is to ensure that PLHAs get a good service 'package' for ART which includes medical care, testing and counselling as well as support groups. All this, within a friendly environment that respects their dignity, privacy and human rights.

We have developed a graduated cost sharing model that has made expensive ARV drugs available to a large number of PLHAs. Our experience has shown that people have a willingness and ability to pay for ART medications and nominally charging for treatment actually helps to maintain the self respect of these PLHAs who do not need sympathy or charity - just empathy!

ARCON is a small organisation with centres all over the state of Maharashtra. We try to make our services "youth friendly" in every possible way. We link up with other organisatins for advocacy and outreach work and recently supported a series of street theatre performances on AIDS awareness in rural areas of the state. We also have monthly support group meetings and have recently started a self help and micro credit group which will particularly help young PLHAs so that they can be financially self reliant and plan their lives well.
