The National Committee joined ICYE in 1978. The organisation, AFSAI "Associazione per la formazione, gli scambi e le attivita interculturali", was founded in 1958. There is a national office in Rome plus regional groups run by volunteers, most of them former exchangees.

What does the organization do?
Non-formal out-of-school education of young people through socio-cultural transnational activities.
Opportunities for Youth
The programme is aimed at 16 to 25 year olds. All exchangees 16 to 18 years old will be placed in host families and will attend high school. Exchangees 19 plus mostly have a community placement at their project.

The programme is aimed at 16 to 25 year olds. All exchangees 16 to 18 years old will be placed in host families and will attend high school. Exchangees 19 plus mostly have a community placement at their project.
Voluntary work will be mainly in three areas: social work, environmental activities, peace and third world projects. Actual placements may be at kindergartens, in projects working with the disabled and the elderly, or at the offices of NGOs where there is mainly clerical and organisational work to do.
