January of 2000 kicks off the campaign to literally help keep Africa Alive! in the new millennium. The MISSION of the Africa Alive! campaign is to educate and give youth the skills they need in the fight against HIV/AIDS through the medium of popular entertainment. The VISION is a new generation of Africans who are HIV/AIDS-free. With over 70% of the people in the world infected with HIV living in sub-Saharan Africa, it is clear that Africa Alive! is a much needed initiative.

The OPERATION PRINCIPLES of Africa Alive! are to create an African network where youth HIV/AIDS prevention programs at local, national, and regional levels can share ideas, have a common, focused strategy and solicit funding for their programs. With support from the Johns Hopkins University Center for Communication Programs (JHU/CCP), the Africa Alive! network will help organizations that have formerly been working on their own to access a wealth of experience, support and expertise from colleagues within Africa and throughout the world. The PROJECT AIM is a multi-country health communication strategy, nurturing strong African institutions with the potential for national and regional impact, supporting existing country-specific health programs, building links among international donor agencies and local, national, and regional HIV/AIDS prevention programs. Assistance on design, implementation, and cost-effectiveness can be shared through the network. Formerly scattered activities in the fight against AIDS will become parts of a well developed, coordinated, strategic effort by Africans to address the crisis in unity and will provide an opportunity to solicit much needed funding for the programs.
