Historically, the arts have proven its power to inspire as well as to educate – reaching large groups of people. The arts are well known for their treatment of strong political and social content. In addition, they invoke universal appeal – crossing barriers of age, gender, race, language, political inclination or religious belief.
THE 411 INITIATIVE FOR CHANGE is seeking to create a world in which all global citizens, and specifically young people, have a say and a role to play in their community, their country, and are active participants in all areas of society and at all levels.
THE 411 INITIATIVE FOR CHANGE seeks a world that is informed, educated, participatory, free from violence, poverty, war and disease, equitable, sustainable, and in which the human, economic and political rights are respected, and human dignity upheld. THE 411 INITIATIVE FOR CHANGE recognizes the increasing complexities and effects arising from globalization.

Our Mission
The 411 Initiative for Change uses arts and culture as tools to raise public awareness and foster social change.
What We Do
• Gear the majority of our work and programs towards young audiences;
• Use music and art as the media to combat prejudices and negative stereotypes;
• Work to educate youth, generate interest and encourage action on social issues and challenge negative stereotypes set forth in the media;
• Use art as a medium to raise funds for international development projects and humanitarian aid;
• Ensure that all our events and projects include at least 50% Canadian artistic content;
• Offer educational programs, and touring productions to schools;
• Improve cultural comprehension and similarly race relations;
• Educate and sensitize the Canadian public on current humanitarian issues;
• Work in partnership with schools, community organizations and governments; and
• Engage young participants and community leaders in the development of our projects
Program Summary: Our programs engage youth on a variety of levels. By using music and young musicians to engage our young audiences, we are able to establish a common bond, heightened level of interest and evoke intrinsic commitment – leading to action. Our programs are designed to:
• Provide students with information and exposure to a number of different social issues that affect them,
• Encourage them to develop their own means of self-expression, and,
• Take action on becoming involved in facilitating social change.
