SAGA seeks to create a network of Canadian students and student groups across Canada working together to end the global HIV/AIDS pandemic. In all of its activities, SAGA strives to be mindful of the broader international health situation, as well as the determinants of health.

Since 2003, SAGA has been bringing together Canadian student groups working against HIV/AIDS to organize joint campaigns and share resources. SAGA’s campaigns focus on two main objectives. First, they encourage Canadian and international institutions to take action on the global AIDS pandemic and to address the social, political, economical, and medical determinants of the pandemic. Second, they raise awareness in Canada about the pandemic. SAGA’s past campaigns include the Student Lead Access to HIV Medicines Campaign that asked Canadian lawmakers to make global access to anti-retroviral treatment a priority, and the Fix C-9 campaign that insisted that the government correct key faults in a piece of legislation designed to help lower drug prices in the developing world.

SAGA is a growing organization, always looking for organizations that would like to become SAGA chapters. Many SAGA chapters do other work above and beyond SAGA campaigns. SAGA is also prepared to help interested individuals start a new SAGA chapter at their school.
