The VSN volunteer program targets young people, children and women in the community, through rural government school and community based program, concentrating on raising awareness of social, educational, basic health and sanitation and conservation issues. VSN collaborates all its program activities with local NGOs and local governmental development plan. The development process is slow despite the efforts of the government and rural NGOs. Few villages have basic sanitation facilities. As a result basic health problems such as malnutrition, water born diseases are widespread. Thus volunteers play a key role in enabling students, young people and community women and other community members to address these issues with in their capacity.
Volunteers will help address the issues by forming self help groups such as youth groups, students group and women's group and will be working very closely with partner NGOs who are already working in the field on specific issues, utilizing their expertise and experience.
Volunteering abroad is also important for personal growth and development. And it provides a sense of personal freedom at a significant time in a student's academic and personal development. It can be a defining moment in life. Volunteering in Nepal- especially in rural Nepal can be a once in a lifetime opportunity. It is fun and challenging and adventurous, but throughout your placement you will enjoy the support of our highly experienced staff at VSN who are dedicated to ensuring the well-being of all volunteers.
