Conflict is everywhere. It exists in international politics, between organizations, and in interpersonal relations. It can have cultural, psychological and political dimensions. Conflict resolution is a necessary skill for everyone, especially those for whom dealing with conflict is part of their daily work. The Summer Institute will tackle these issues in an innovative way by providing a unique combination of perspectives on conflict resolution. It will integrate theory and practice while maintaining a high academic level. It will also offer an intensive analytical cross-referencing of international, intra-organisational and interpersonal conflicts. In doing so, the course promises to yield immediate benefits in the negotiations and disputes people have to deal with every day.

The Summer Institute on Conflict Management and Resolution is a two-week academic programme for people who recognise that a key to personal effectiveness – whether in the area of management, policy, or program planning and implementation – is one’s ability to manage and resolve conflict. By integrating theory with practice, discursive learning with ‘hands-on’ exercises, and the intellectual with the reflective, the programme will enable participants to improve both their understanding and their competence. The Summer Institute is open to both graduate students and working professionals.
