Inspired by a 1984 seminar entitled "Women's Choices, Women's Lives", AWARE's mission is:
To achieve total gender equality so that women can develop their full potential, participate fully in both public and private life and face challenges with courage and confidence.

AWARE was registered in Singapore in November 1985 as a voluntary organisation of women with three main areas of focus: Support, Research and Advocacy.
We look into issues affecting women and advocate for change to bring about a more just and equal society. We conduct research, publish books, work to raise awareness of women's status and rights, and seek to empower women so they can make their own life choices.
We reach out to as wide a cross-section as possible of women from all economic, educational and social backgrounds. We also work with other women's groups. AWARE is about friendship, self-growth and sharing experiences.
