What SKÅL is all about and what it stands for are questions that are being raised by many people every day. SKÅL is of Scandinavian origin and it was in Scandinavia that the idea first arose during an educational tour organized by some large airlines for a number of senior representatives of the travel agencies in Paris.
When honouring a guest or friend with a toast, you say "SKÅL!", a four-letter Scandianvian word which was rumoured to stand for Happiness, Good Health, Friendship, and Long Life. Although the rumour was later found to be without foundation, we like to continue our belief that when we say SKÅL to our visitors, we are offering them all these good wishes as a token of happy friendship, and to al Skalleagues, the word SKÅL will retain that happy interpretation.

The Bahrain Club is at present the only Club in the Arabian Gulf. Our nearest neighbours are Amman (Jordan), Cairo (Egypt), and Beirut (Lebanon). It is appropriate, however, that Bahrain should have had an active SKÅL Club for the past 25 years, as for many years Bahrain has been an important cross-roads in the Gulf and Middle East, with a history as a transport staging post founded on its geographical position and the traditional friendship and hospitality of its people.
