positively AFRICA is a small not-for-profit society based in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Incorporated in 2006 with a small vounteer Board, we focus on community assistance and education. In a short time we have grown into a strong and vibrant organization with over forty active volunteers and more than a thousand supporters.
The effects of the HIV/AIDS pandemic in Africa are devastating and widespread. A comprehensive response is essential. Large organizations facilitate the supply of anti-retroviral drugs, conduct research on better protection methods, and setup national structures. positively AFRICA strengths are:
* working with the most vulnerable - orphans, disabled children, youth and adults with compromised health; and,
* supporting emerging African groups that are not yet part of the mainstream - what we often refer to as "dirt floor" organizations. We assist and encourage them until they become completely independent or are able to tap into established support networks.
positively AFRICA has always been a very personal organization, we put a 'face to what we do'. Certainly if the people in our community are able to connect with African groups, then in some - often unimagined ways - we will help overcome the pandemic. Consequently we are committed to linking, in tangible and meaningful ways, projects and communities in Africa to individuals and support groups in Canada.
