In response to the daily challenges that children and youth face amidst the increased attention governments and the international communities are giving to children and youth, YPPD-SL has made a commitment to integrate and deepen its work by first preparing a strategy on children and youth. The strategy focuses on youth and children who should not be seen as problems or an issue, but as active agents of their own development in all spheres.
Within the first year of active service in awareness raising and community mobilization in Freetown and its environs, regional and district focal points were established in the four regions of Sierra Leone, in addition to the extension of our network in Liberia and Uganda chapter in late 2007.
OUR OPERATIONAL AGENDA ARE AS FOLLOWS:
• YPPD seeks to provide a ‘youthful voice’ that seeks to address the numerous challenges facing leaders of tomorrow by effectively using young resourceful minds to influence the course of inclusive policy formulation and development in a consistent and harmonized manner.
• Advance capacity build-up of poor youth by developing and heightening their knowledge base and equipping them with livelihood skills.
• Establishes platforms to uphold the practice of socio-economic, political and social justice so as to bring about social harmony, solidarity and peace in the lives of young people.
• Promote the creation and strengthening of on-going and existing youth organizations/groups with the aim of improving their economic base, increasing their capacities and influence in decision-making and management at all levels.
• Strengthen existing community development structures that will spearhead development initiatives as well supporting youth monitoring structures to enhance government’s accountability and transparency, while ensuring
the existence of youth coalitions for advocacy, promotion of awareness and response to HIV/AIDS prevention.
• Developing effective reporting and information dissemination mechanisms at community and national levels, and international economic, social and political policies.

The organization have viable opportunities for youth in different and diverse forms.
Among these, less-fortunate and marginalized youth within our operational areas can now boast of life skills in vocational training generally.
Whereas we still advocate at policy levels and this has again inspired so many youths in starting their small community projects.
We also encourage all youth from various countries to form a chapter of YPPD within their own domains. This will however help in broadening the scope of the organization.
