Youth of the World (YOTW) is an organization focused on strengthening relationships in communities and supporting local commerce. It helps support communities by educating youth on how to sustainably use their resources and to localize their economy. YOTW works to build enriching intergenerational relationships and a diversity of community connections. Discussing and implementing the steps to developing a sustainable, home ruled community is a big step toward empowering communities everywhere.

YOTW educates communities through schools and public forums on what it means to be local and how reducing resource consumption can lower the community's carbon footprint. It informs the community of actions that can be taken to create a local economy, and holds meetings for the youth in the community to get to know their neighbors and local people while learning about environmental and social issues. rnIt is the firm belief of YOTW that to build stronger communities, the economy must be localized. We encourage bringing business to local merchants: from buying livestock from the farmer down the road, to forming community gardens, to joining CSA's. By localizing the economy, we form a securely rooted community with a rich sense of place and people.rnYOTW also provides a channel for a community to connect with others that are focused on living sustainably and in an interconnected way.

Hold a community forum to discuss the steps it'll take to make a more local economy and what it would mean in your particular part of the world to create a sustainable community.rnOther things that can be done to strengthen communities:rn-Start a community gardenrn-Support a CSArn-Volunteer time at your local Habitat for Humanity, Hospitality House, animal shelter, and at retirement homesrn-Devote time to get to know your family and neighbors betterrn-Spend time with your elders, live with and make use of their knowledge... they've lived through a lot and have many things to teach us.rnrnEducate your community. Let them know about the issues that are important to you: not only will you form strong connections and relationships, but everyone around you will learn about the world and other communities' struggles toward a just, sustainable planet.
