We began this initiative in 1987 and continue courtesy of generous donations of time and heart from across the continents. We are a small, independent, non-profit enterprise, without political or religious affiliation. Our office is on an island off the east coast of the United States.

We began this initiative in 1987 and continue courtesy of generous donations of time and heart from across the continents. We are a small, independent, non-profit enterprise, without political or religious affiliation. Our office is on an island off the east coast of the United States.

Our primary work is our award-winning journal, humanity, and our expanding presence on the World Wide Web. We published a preview of humanity in 1991, the first full issue in 1996 and a second issue in 1997. Other important projects include our leadership and folklore initiatives, and our collection of commencement addresses.

Tony Balis is our founder and president. Tom Ockerse is our designer. Dave Sawyer is our internet and technology magician. Justen Ahren directs our folklore initiative. We have an advisory board of three women and four men who hail originally from China, India, Romania, England, Sweden, and the United States. We also have an intern program, every summer and every semester, which attracts candidates from throughout the world.
