IIHMR is an institution dedicated to the improvement in standards of health through better management of health care and related programmes. It seeks to accomplish this through management research, training, consultation and institutional networking in a national and global perspective.

The Institute undertakes training, research and consultancy in health management in close collaboration with international organizations such as UNFPA, UNICEF, WHO, World Bank, ODA, DANIDA, KFW & GTZ, NORAD, CARE and USAID. The Institute works for the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (GOI), the Planning Commission, the Indian Council of Medical Research, state governments and others. It has collaborated with University of North Carolina, USA to offer a Masters programme in Public Health to candidates from South-Asia. It also offers a post graduate diploma in Hospital and Health management, for past 12 years, to its graduates who work in hospital management, public health, pharmaceutical industry and international development agencies.
