The Somali Peace and Democracy (S,P,D) is a non profit, non governmental, youth led organization launched on August 2004 by a group of Somali Elders and youth activists. S,P,D strives to empower Somali people and unite their passion for building a peaceful and democratic in Somalia.We are a network of local organizations, working in the northeast of Somalia, in a region known as Punt land. We include several small groups who work on the very large task of building peace in Somalia. We have experience and a reputation for hard work at the community level. We are committed to working together and with all other interested groups to build peace in our communities.

Poverty is an important issue for members to consider, as it is the root of many social ills that affect our world today. We solicit you, as a Somali peace and Democracy member, to take action against Poverty, whether it is individually or through your chapter.

Among issues discussed were the development of a curriculum on peace education, the role of women, militia and unemployed youth, as well as the promotion of the culture of peace through media, arts and sports to ensure the participation of the Somali communities.
