IEFT works to provide quality, affordable education for children from families in rural Tanzania who otherwise would not have the opportunity to attend secondary school.
Currently only 7% of Tanzanian children attend secondary school and IEFT is working to change that statistic through a dynamic working model which includes the buy-in from villagers and families with children attending the school.
Most government and private schools in Tanzania charge over USD$400 per year to attend. At Orkeeswa, through our student sponsorship program and the use of international volunteer teachers and staff, families pay only USD$25 per year to attend school. This price is affordable and attainable for families and allows students the ability to attend secondary school and see it as more than a dream.

IEFT currently operates Orkeeswa Secondary School in Monduli District in the Arusha Region of northern Tanzania. The school opened it's doors on April 14th, 2008 and has 41 students - 21 boys and 20 girls.
IEFT also works alongside the village's women's group and has started a goat micro-finance program where 50 female goats were donated to the women and their families. Once the first baby goat is born, it will become property of the group and will then be distributed to another needy family. The adult goat will then become property of the family and can be used in many ways: to provide milk daily for family members, to have more offspring, be slaughtered to feed the family or sold at market for income.

In June of 2008, IEFT hosted a group of 37 volunteers with ages ranging from 15 - 70 years old!
Teens were able to help while the volunteer group assisted with the digging of a staff house foundation, painting an entire primary school, inside and out, and the digging and planting of a garden. All projects contributed to the benefit of the future of the secondary school and the village as a whole.
