The surf lifesaver is an Australian icon. Each person who wears the red and yellow cap is a recipient and guardian of that heritage.

Most members of Surf Lifesaving Australia work as Patrol members. Patrol members keep watch at public beaches and rescue anyone who gets into trouble. The Patrol will be led by a Patrol Captain.

Most members of Surf Lifesaving Australia work as Patrol members. Patrol members keep watch at public beaches and rescue anyone who gets into trouble. The Patrol will be led by a Patrol Captain.
Other roles taken on by lifesavers include being a Inflatible Resuce Boat (IRB) driver and instructing.
Each beach has it's own club. The club has a number of postions including a president, secretary, treasurer and chief-instructor.
All of these positions are available to members who are 16 years and over.
