A community organization working primarily in the English language to enhance the quality of life of people living with HIV/AIDS, to prevent HIV transmission, and to promote community awareness and action.
When the AIDS epidemic started across Canada in the early 1980’s there
were already in existence many gay associations and organizations.
Many doctors in major Montreal hospitals began to realize the lack of community
support for the individuals contracting HIV/AIDS who were often discriminated
against and abandoned by family and friends.
These doctors contacted Mr. David Cassidy at the CSSVM
(Centre des services sociaux de Ville-Marie) to create a new
organization for individuals with HIV/AIDS.

Here at ACCM, we believe in the power of social events as a great way to bring our community together for a myriad of reasons. Social events allow all of our members to meet other people, break isolation, feel connected to and appreciated by the organization, and most importantly, have fun!
We organize a variety of events over the course of each year, both on-site and in the community. Our Drop In Resource Centre holds Summer BBQs, a Holiday Season Open House and an Ice Skating Party. The Volunteer department has a major Volunteer Recognition Event each April, as part of volunteer recognition week, as well as several smaller timely events in order to express our appreciation for the hard work and dedication of our volunteers. Every December, ACCM throws a big Holiday Party, complete with turkey dinner, dancing, entertainment and goodies as a way to bring everyone together over the holiday season. Finally, we organize Positive Mingles several times a year in the larger community, to create more opportunities for safe spaces for PHAs and their friends to mix, meet and mingle without the worries of disclosure. Most activities are free or provided at a minimal fee to help us cover costs; finances should never be a barrier to participation!
For more information about ACCM sponsored social events, see our monthly newsletter Positive Outlook available at the office, the Drop In Resource Centre and online on our website.
