Behind the graphs of rising temperatures and models of melting sea ice and rising sea levels are the stories of how people around the world are experiencing these impacts and what they are doing to address the often massive changes that these events are having on their livelihoods, lifestyles and local environment.
The WWF Climate Witness Programme is working with individuals and communities around the world to document their stories and share them widely as a very powerful way to illustrate to our decision makers the real impact that climate change is having on people’s lives here and now.
A new global deal will be made in Copenhagen, Denmark in December 2009, and that deal will decide how the international community moves forward to address climate change. Together we can push our nations to reach a deal that will meet the greatest challenge of our time.

What does the organization do?
Climate Witness recruits people from around the world who are experiencing the impacts of climate change and creates a forum for them to tell their story in their own voice. These stories are shared with the media and promoted at global events (e.g., UNFCCC meetings, G8 etc.) to raise awareness...

Many of our climate witnesses are older people as they can talk about changes in their local environment over many years.
However, there are many opportunities for young people to be engaged. In Alaska young people are intervieing elders about changes in their local environment (e.g., permafrost melting, species changing migration patterns) and in the US Gulf States (Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee) students are exploring the impact of climate change on their lives.
