Juventude Ecológica Angolana (JEA) or Ecological Youth of Angola is a non-profit environmental youth organization founded in May 1991 by a group of young people set up for the protection and conservation of the environment; information, capacity building and environmental education of the population and better life quality of the Angolan communities. Although the difficult conditions brought about by more than two decades of intense civil war and limited resources, these helped JEA becoming today a leading environmental force in the country. JEA calls to a generalised environmental culture and sustainable development in whole country. JEA is represented not only in the capital Luanda, but also in other provinces, such as Benguela, Cabinda, Huila, Namibe, Cunene, Kwanza Sul and Malanje. Some other provincial environmental Clubs committed to the JEA’s goal is been well implemented around the country. JEA is a member of the IUCN (www.iucn.org), World Assembly of Youth (www.worldassemblyofyouth.org), Environmental Education Association of Southern Africa (www.info-net.net/eeasa) and UN Young General Assembly. JEA received the prestigious UNEP Global 500 Environmental Award (www.unep.org) at 2002 World Environment Day in China, for environmental achievement in youth category. JEA is a founding member of the Angola-based UNEP Global 500 African Network (www.global500.org) launched in South Africa, during the World Summit on Sustainable Development (www.worldsummit.org).
