The vision is to create awareness and dialog around issues related to food.
Food security, defined the ability of a society to nourish itself, will just one of the many environmental challenges our generation will face. We have to figure out how to feed ourselves sustainable and with the lightest impact on the earth possible. We must break away from past practices and envision a new way of going about food production.
To that end, the Food Security Action Team wants to engage youth in action around the above stated issues.
Our generation needs to empower itself to try different things and experiment.

The Food Security Action Team accomplishes one major action item.
The action item for 2007-08 is a panel on the future of food self-sufficiency in the Greater Toronto Area.
We also fundraise for Youth Challenge International projects overseas such as the Ushujaa campaign (Swahili word meaning courage) in Tanzania which aims to create a comfortable environment in which youth get tested for HIV/AIDS.
The Food Security Action Team is part of a larger network of teams called the Volunteer Action Network.

The Food Security Action Team is actively looking for new team members. The team is looking for youth anywhere between ages 12-30 to come be part of the action! We are looking for enthusiastic, dynamic, creative and critical people who are passionate about food issues.
Involvement in the Food Security Action Team is a great resume building opportunity. It will give you great experience in volunteer work. It will expose you to the political advocacy side of food security. Lastly it will give you a chance to *act* on an issue of global inequality. How that will be done will remain up to you! ( along with your other team mates and team leader) :)
