AMREF's mission is to improve the health of disadvantaged people in Africa to help them escape poverty and improve their lives. Our goal in Canada is to educate and inspire Canadians to join with AMREF and African communities in building a healthier Africa.

AMREF is recognized today as Africa's premier health development organization. Headquartered in Africa with the majority of its staff being African, AMREF is the only international African NGO of its kind. For 50 years, AMREF has been working closely with rural and urban communities to empower people, and its work with African governments is improving health systems. After years of experience in community-based health care, AMREF is sharing lessons learnt in Africa all over the world. AMREF's innovative health projects are run in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia, Sudan, Somalia, Rwanda and South Africa.
