The SJYC is a volunteer group open to youth aged 13 to 25 tasked with the goal of promoting youth civic engagement, and engaging local young people to make Saint John more youth-friendly.

SJYC's slogan is SPEAK UP!
More formally, they are tasked with engaging local young people to make Saint John more youth-friendly and promoting youth civic engagement.
Thus far, the SJYC have engaged in several home-grown initiatives including a campaign that encouraged local youth to vote in the January federal election, "Chalk the Walk," in celebration of International Youth Week, and an Uptown cleanup and round table with New Brunswick's Minister of the Environment, Hon. Trevor Holder. The SJYC has also been involved in many external youth initiatives, including the 2006 Promoting Action Nationally - Creating Advocates Now (PAN-CAN) Youth Conference.

Anyone between 13 and 25 years of age who lives in Greater Saint John can join SJYC. They are looking for a diverse group of youth, no matter what their background or interests! No experience is required to join.
