The Youth Caucus provides a space and organizing structure for young people participating in the World Summit on Sutainable Development. Since the Rio Earth Summit on Environment and Development, youth from around the world have gathered many times to identify key priorities for the future. Youth recognize efforts made at Rio, but as the future generation, we are highly frustrated at continued lack of commitment and politcal will to implement its outcomes. Youth have closely followed the WSSD preparations and note the distressing lack of concrete and timely proposals for real sustainable development implementation.

Youth is one of nine official Major Groups in the process, with the chance to take part in the discussions during the Multistakeholder dialogue process. While many governments are now including young people on their official delegations, many young people also participate from non-government organisations. During the actual conferences, the Youth Caucus meets at least once a day to make plans and exchange ideas. For all youth, which do not have the possibility to attend, and for communication between the meetings, there is a lively email listserv - wssd-youthcaucus@yahoogroups.com. The Youth Caucus is open for all youth interested in sustainable development.
