Baobabconnections is a youth project about globalisation funded by the Dutch government and Dutch funding organisations. Baobabconnections is creating an online platform where youth conscious youth can share information about globalisation. At first our focus is on Holland and Africa, but we would like to grow into a truly worldwide network. The Baobabconnections project uses the internet to start a worldwide dialogue on globalisation. We think it is possible to establish a foundation for a deeper understanding about the various aspects and effects of globalisation if everybody is allowed to take part in the discussion. That's exactly why we would like to encourage and motivate university departments, students, youth organisations, artists and companies to become involved in this dialogue.

We produce an online magazine about globalisation. Also, we are encouraging young people from Holland and Africa to get together on
this website and exchange ideas about globalisation. To stimulate the
interaction on the website, and to raise awareness about issues of globalisation, Baobabconnections organises an online essay competition.

We will send out the winning teams to be reporters for Baobabconnections during the Women’s World Conference in Uganda and the Earth Summit in South Africa. This competition is only open for members from the following countries: Uganda, Ghana, South Africa, Kenya, the Netherlands.

Teams exist out of one African and one Dutch team member. So do not hesitate and start looking for a partner online:

The deadline for the Uganda competition is June 16th 2002.
The deadline for the South Africa competition is July 1st 2002.
