Indian Federation of United Nations Associations (IFUNA) has a vital role to play in facilitating communication between people and United Nations Specialized Agencies. IFUNA is conducting regularly Seminars, workshops, Symposiums highlighting the work undertaken by the United Nations in India. IFUNA also cooperate with various UN Agencies for disseminating information about their work in India. IFUNA is having a network of State UNAs in India through which information about activities of the United Nations and the Agenda of the United Nations and other relevant information is disseminated as IFUNA is the one and only Organization in India which exclusively work for the United Nations and the vision of the IFUNA is to create awareness among the people in India about the importance of the United nations so that the atmosphere is created conducive to Peace and progress in the region. The task of peace and development is emphasized among the people even during the hysteria of war.
IFUNA is doing its best to support implementation of millennium declaration. IFUNA’s mission is to work among the youth so that awareness is created in the mind of the youths about importance of United Nations. IFUNA is already conducting several programmes with the youths in programmes on Environment, Bio-diversity, Literacy and Sustainable Development. IFUNA and its branches (State UNAs) has done a tremendous job in creating awareness against the terrorism and the need for an effective law to challenge the menace of terrorism. The programmes on Terrorism were attended by the Home Minister of State in India Mr.I.,D.Swami, several other State Ministers and the United Nations Information Centre Director Mr.Feodor Starcevic also participated in this programme. The vision of IFUNA is to create an atmosphere of peace for Sustainable Development.

Indian Federation of United Nations Associations (IFUNA) was established more than four decades ago promoting the aims and objectives and activities of the United Nations and its specialised agencies. It is a non-governmental, voluntary, non-profit organization working for international peace and understanding. IFUNA strives to centre its programmes and activities around the vital concerns of the United Nations like Peace, International Understanding, Environment and Human Rights. In conducting these activities and programmes effort is made to involve the leadership from all sections of the society so as to make it broad and effective. IFUNA maintains Liaisons with Government Organizations, the Press and Diplomatic Missions interested In United Nations activities.
IFUNA has a network of active state level United Nations Associations in different parts of the country such as Maharashtra, West Bengal, Manipur, U.P, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Andhra Pradesh, TamilNadu, Orissa, Bihar, Kerals, Karnataka, Rajasthan and Gujrat. The other important all India Organizations affiliated to IFUNA are :-
(i) National Federation of UNESCO Associations in India
(ii) U.N.Council of Indian Youth
IFUNA has already created a niche for itself in the academic and social circles of the country through its varied and numerous activities – Lectures, Seminars, Observance of U.N.Days, Debates, Competitions and Exhibitions.
One of the important departments of Indian Federation of United Nations Associations is “The Institute of United Nations Studies”. The Institute was established in the year 1969 as part of IFUNA, under the Chairmanship of Dr.Narendra Singh, ICS; Judge International Court of Justice, The Hague and Mr.A.S.Talwar, Addl.Secretary General. Institute conducts a Six Months Correspondence Course on “UNITED NATIONS AND INTERNATIONAL UNDERSTANDING”. Students from India and abroad interested in UN Studies are benefited from this course.
