The British Columbia Youth Parliament is a non-profit, non-partisan YOUTH SERVICE organization and also a registered charity.
BCYP does not associate itself with any political party or organization, and is run by young people between the ages of 16-21.
Members of BCYP try to serve other young people of British Columbia to their maximum ability through projects which further their mental, physical, spiritual or social well-being. BCYP is sponsored by the Youth Parliament of British Columbia Alumni Society.
The BCYP Session
Every year between December 27th and 31st, 90 representatives of youth organizations from across British Columbia (the “Parliamentarians”) gather at the Legislative Chambers in Victoria for the annual session of the British Columbia Youth Parliament. Members sit as independents; they do not represent any political party and they vote according to their individual consciences on all issues. They learn about parliamentary process, debate topics of interest, and plan numerous activities for the upcoming year. Proposed activities are presented in the form of government bills; once the bills are passed, they must be put into effect.
The British Columbia Youth Parliament is a truly unique organization which fills a significant purpose: allowing today’s youth to be better prepared for the formation of their own futures.
