Alberta’s YouthVOLUNTEER! supports and enhances volunteerism among youth. We are committed to the development of volunteering that:
Provides a better awareness and access to youth volunteer opportunities and resources.
Encourages collaboration between youth-serving and involving organizations and young people.
Advocates for a better understanding of youth volunteer needs to inspire and maintain youth engagement.
We aim to increase the number of young Albertans engaged in volunteer activities. Whether a young person volunteers on an individual basis, or a group of youth volunteers develop their own initiative to champion, the environment, the people and the economics of a community are enhanced as a result of the sharing of time and talent. With this in mind, Alberta’s YouthVOLUNTEER!’s programs and services are geared to involve two key participant groups:
Youth aged 14–24, and
Charitable or community organizations that can provide meaningful and safe volunteer opportunities for young people.
Our Values
Youth-Driven: We value the input of today’s youth. Our Board of Directors is comprised entirely of youth between the ages of 16-24 from across Alberta
Universality: We believe that youth from all backgrounds have equal status and share equal responsibilities in helping each other and building sustainable communities.

Improving the awareness about the benefits of volunteering and addressing the barriers to volunteering are the first steps in getting young people engaged. Many young people have preconceptions about volunteering, and they don’t know how they can make a difference. Through the Education and Advocacy Program, Alberta’s YouthVOLUNTEER! works to raise awareness and educate about the benefits advantages and the community benefits that come with volunteer work.

Volunteer Referral and Collaboration Program
The Referral and Collaboration Program provides both volunteers and agencies with tools and support to ensure positive experiences and long-term success with their volunteer efforts. Through this program, the organization strives to create a virtual community where both volunteers and agencies feel that they are involved in a larger purpose and network regardless of their geographical location. This program helps ensure that all agencies interested in providing volunteer opportunities have the capability to locate and connect with interested young volunteers.
With this in mind, Alberta’s YouthVOLUNTEER! developed and operates a virtual volunteer centre designed specifically for youth, by youth. Agencies can post their volunteer opportunities on our site, and youth can find a position match suitable to their interest and schedules. The site also allows for youth and volunteer agencies to participate in online discussions, participate in surveys, access links to resources and articles, and submit articles about their experiences and "meet" others from across the province to share best practices.
Resources and opportunities for collaboration are also available via our Education and Advocacy program.
