Breakthroughs Aboard is a non-profit, non-sectarian, international service organization that offers community service, cross-cultural exchanges, family stays and adventure.
We create service- learning experiences for American high school students. Our teams of 12 students and 2 leaders work with local nonprofit organizations and the host community to implement community-designed projects. These projects have long lasting benefits for the community as well as for our students.
Through family stays and work on service projects, students experience first hand the day-to-day living of people in other cultures. Working side-by-side with people of a different culture is coupled with focused discussions and opportunities to critically reflect on the student’s responsibilities as community member both at home and globally. Guided by experienced staff these discussions allow students to generate new sets of values and attitudes. Students have breakthroughs in global awareness, cultural sensitivity and in their sense of self. They develop a new ethic of community service and involvement. Students enhance their individual and group communication skills. They acquire new levels of knowledge and skills to be community leaders. These breakthroughs empower students to return home to create positive differences in their own communities.

We offer a variety of four to six week international service trips to Latin America, Asia, and Africa, as well as domestic trips to Native American Reservations.
