Vision:
Since the Philippines first joined the UNV Programme in 1972, the country has consistently been one of the largest suppliers of volunteers. During 1999 and 2000 Filipinos constituted the largest number of volunteers serving abroad, having been surpassed only in 2001 by Italy and India. Filipinos are notably found to have strong mobilization skills - a volunteer profile considered to be essential for effective and enduring development actions.
Mission:
The United Nations Volunteers programme (UNV), established in 1971 and administered by UNDP is the United Nations programme that supports sustainable human development globally through the promotion of volunteerism and the mobilization of volunteers. It operates against a background of growing recognition that volunteerism brings benefits to both society at large and the individual volunteer; that it makes important contributions, economically as well as socially; and that it contributes to more cohesive societies by building trust and reciprocity among citizens. Universal and inclusive, UNV embraces all types of volunteer action while holding to the values of free will, commitment, engagement and solidarity, which are the foundations of volunteerism. Through the concept of volunteerism and volunteer action, the causes of peace and development are being served by providing opportunities for participation of all people. UN Volunteers are involved in and support the programmes of the United Nations itself and almost all United Nations Funds, Programmes and Specialized Agencies in areas like (i) enabling development; (ii) reducing poverty; (iii) humanitarian relief and peace efforts; and (iv) gender and environment. Maximum efficiency is being sought through the speedy deployment of competent and motivated UN Volunteers in situations where flexibility and dedication are crucial to the success of the operations. UNV with a track record of identifying and deploying UN Volunteer specialists at very short notice is therefore in a position to provide strategic support to current UN operations in Afghanistan.

United Nations Volunteers in the Philippines - Since the Philippines first joined the UNV Programme in 1972, the country has consistently been one of the largest suppliers of volunteers. During 1999 and 2000 Filipinos constituted the largest number of volunteers serving abroad, having been surpassed only in 2001 by Italy and India. Filipinos are notably found to have strong mobilization skills - a volunteer profile considered to be essential for effective and enduring development actions.
International UN Volunteers were first deployed to work in the Philippines in 1981. The majority of some 100 volunteers served as UNV Domestic Development Service (DDS) Field Workers. Hosted across every region of the Philippines, they primarily worked with local government units and NGOs in rural areas. Principally experienced in the fields of agriculture and appropriate technology, these Field Workers focused their skills in the promotion of self-reliance at the grassroots level.
The concept of solidarity is very rooted in the philippines culture: they belive in the power of community, interelation, social network and work together more than as individual. In this sense, volunteerism and philippine philosophy go in parallel. Today, We are working in peace and development advocacy under the GOP-UN Multi-Donor Programme (MDP3); in environmental advocacy and protection; in business-community relations and in indigenous peoples' capacity building.
