In the midst of so much social injustice, economic inequality, political alienation and environmental danger, it is an optimistic sign that a great number of individuals and groups working toward what can loosely be named global justice gets more numerous by the day all through the world. Some work at local levels, others at national or international levels and many have entered the information highway and have presence in Internet. Some deal with world governance issues, others try to promote direct democracy, many strive for a new economic democracy, most are worried about the environment and sustainability.
However, some of us feel there is also a pressing need to find a way for making all these separate efforts somehow converge if real progress toward more global justice, sustainability and democratic world governance is going to have any chance. This must be achieved in a way that doest not reduce the richness of options and creativity that the multiplicity of groups and organizations represent. Thus, we need to work out a vision of convergence that can appeal to all world citizens and particularly to the open-minded people in charge of different mundialist groups. This vision must have at its core the notion that convergence must add and not detract, respect the differences among organizations as a rich pool of ideas, methodologies and objectives, and enhance and not diminish the capacity of work, collaboration and leadership of the people currently committed to these organizations.
As a first step, we are proposing all global democracy groups and organizations the creation of a Community of World Citizens, where we can meet to work together, learn, discuss, make proposals, express opinion on issues and decide on courses of action.
