Free The Children is the largest network of children helping children through education in the world, with more than one million youth involved in our innovative education and development programs in 45 countries. Founded by international child rights activist Craig Kielburger, Free The Children has an established track-record of success, with three nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize and partnerships with the United Nations and Oprah’s Angel Network.
Unlike any other children's charity in the world, Free The Children is both funded and driven by children and youth. Our mission is to free young people from the idea that they are powerless to bring about positive social change, and encourage them to act now to improve the lives of young people everywhere.

To help free children from poverty and exploitation, Free The Children implements four specific Education for All Children programs that help children reach their potential:
• Schoolbuilding
• Alternative Income
• Health Care, Water and Sanitation
• Peacebuilding
We believe in the asset-based community development (ABCD) model which asserts that sustainable development must be community led. Our programs are based on this proven model. At the heart of the ABCD approach lies the belief that indigenous people, their institutions, skills and capabilities are the most critical resources for development.
Schoolbuilding focuses on building primary schools in Kenya, Sierra Leone, China Sri Lanka, with many youth volunteering right on the building site!
Alternative Income is about helping parents and families find sustainable sources of income thus freeing their children to go to school.
Health Care, Water, and Sanitation puts health kits, clinics, wells, and other critical pieces into place so that children get proper care and maintain their health.
Peacebuilding is a critical element of our strategy. We work toward creating safe and peaceful community environments, and help children impacted by wars overcome their past.

Free The Children has developed dynamic fundraising campaigns for you and your group to take part in. These campaigns are a wonderful way for you to make a lasting difference in the world. Sign up today and we’ll send you a campaign kit to get you started. It’s fast, fun and easy.
Why do campaigns matter? Without campaigns we could neither provide schools for children nor alternative income resources for their families. Our programs and projects are holistic in their design and implementation, focusing efforts on schoolbuilding; health, water, sanitation and alternative income projects; and on peacebuilding. These activities, which our campaigns support, are carried out in China, Kenya, Sierra Leone and tsunami-affected Sri Lanka.
