CHF is a non-profit organization dedicated to enabling poor rural communities in developing countries to attain sustainable livelihoods. Our vision is of a world in which the rural poor have access to land, water, energy, technology and the other resources they need to improve and sustain healthier living conditions.

CHF is recognized as a leader in international development. Over the last 43 years, CHF has helped change lives and create solutions to combat the effects of drought, disease and devastating poverty in rural communities throughout the world.

CHF is recognized as a leader in international development. Over the last 43 years, CHF has helped change lives and create solutions to combat the effects of drought, disease and devastating poverty in rural communities throughout the world.

Using a Sustainable Livelihoods Approach (SLA) — what we call 3-D Development — CHF has helped bring self-reliance to people in the developing world. Working in partnership with local agencies and organizations, CHF has helped:

• Families start micro-enterprises that serve their community and generate income for family members

• Farmers increase the production of food to feed their families and sell at the market

• Villages access clean sources of water and renewable sources of energy

• Women to start their own businesses and young people to earn a living

CHF also runs a Global Education program that encourages youth to get invovled in global issues.

CHF also runs a Global Education program that encourages youth to get invovled in global issues.

Firstly, youth can ask for a presentation at their school. Interactive presentations, complete with images of the communities we empower, are provided in classrooms by well-trained, knowledgeable volunteers. Presentations are adaptable for all grade levels and group sizes and are currently available in Calgary, Ottawa, Toronto and Vancouver.

Thirdly, youth can change education into action by fundraising for the rural poor at their school or in their community. CHF has tons of ideas to get your school involved.
