Christian youth work values young people as human beings, in what they are now and not only for what they might become, and seeks to challenge all attitudes of discrimination and prejudice
The Purpose of Christian youth work is to initiate, sustain and develop active, caring relationships, of a purely voluntary nature, with young people. These relationships respond to the needs, hopes and interests of young people, enabling them to develop in body, mind and spirit and thus to be better able to live as mature, creative and responsible members of a free society.
Christian youth work is an active educational process. The personality, belief structure and value base of the youth minister are an integral part of this process defining a framework within which young people can develop their own thinking. For Christian practitioners their commitment to Christ is a primary educational tool, which enables them to provide both a frame of reference and a point of identity, enabling young people to make informed choices for themselves.
Christian youth work presents Christianity as a viable and attractive option relevant to the needs of young people and supports those young people wanting to translate a commitment to Christ into active membership of the church and wider community.
